What causes temporary feminine odor?

Temporary feminine odor can be caused by perspiration, intercourse, your menstrual cycle, and even the use of some soaps or douches can disturb the natural vaginal balance. It’s also very common. If you are experiencing a strong "fishy" odor and abnormal discharge, see your healthcare professional as you may have an infection.

Why is vaginal acidity (pH) important and why does it matter in a feminine wash?

Healthy skin in the vulvovaginal area (the area just outside of the vagina) has an acidic pH in the range of 4 to 4.5. Anything greater than 5 is considered abnormal. These abnormalities could be due to bacterial vaginosis (BV) infection, trichomoniasis, menstruation. Semen, vaginal lubricants, medications, supplements, or menopausal state. 

Regular soaps have a pH in the range of 9 to 10¹, which can be harsh on vulva skin. Feminine washes at the appropriate pH level will be the best for on the delicate skin of your vulva.

The acidic vulvovaginal environment helps suppress the overgrowth of abnormal bacteria. When abnormal bacteria overgrow or parasitic infections like Trichomoniasis happen, it results in abnormal vaginal activity. Yeast infections usually do not result in a change in vaginal pH.

What’s the pH of the cleanser?

The pH of the cleanser is 4-4.5. A healthy vaginal pH can range anywhere between 4 - 6, as it's unique to each person.

How do I use FemiClear Ultra-Gentle Feminine Wash with Lysine & Lemon Balm?

Using clean hands, wet area and pour FemiClear Feminine Wash into hand then apply to the vulva in the shower or bath. Rinse thoroughly. Can be used every time you wash or when something doesn’t feel right. 

Can I use FemiClear Ultra-Gentle Feminine Wash with Lysine & Lemon Balm every day?

Yes, FemiClear Feminine Wash is gentle enough to use every day and designed to balance pH. Best used during a genital herpes outbreak or other times skin is irritated or itchy. 

Can I use FemiClear Ultra-Gentle Feminine Wash with Lysine & Lemon Balm during an active genital herpes outbreak?

Yes! FemiClear Feminine Wash can be used at the time of an outbreaks to help soothe itching and calm irritation. 

Can I use FemiClear Ultra-Gentle Feminine Wash with Lysine & Lemon Balm with FemiClear Genital Herpes Ointment?

Yes! FemiClear Feminine Wash can be used in combination with FemiClear Genital Herpes Symptoms ointment. Just apply the ointment as you normally would after shower. 

Can I use FemiClear Ultra-Gentle Feminine Wash with Lysine & Lemon Balm as a body wash? 

Yes, external use only. Avoid contact with eyes.

Can you use the cleanser during or after pregnancy?

There should be no issue with typical pregnancies. If you have reason to be concerned, please confirm with your doctor to be certain.

What is Lysine and what does it do?

Lysine is a well-researched essential amino acid that nourishes skin and is thought to interfere with the absorption of arginine. Lysine can be obtained through the consumption of high protein foods or supplements.◊◊◊1

To replicate in the body, the herpes simplex virus needs a steady source of arginine. Lysine helps prevent the body from absorbing arginine, making it difficult for herpes virus to grow and reproduce.◊◊◊2

What is Lemon balm and what does it do?

Lemon balm, also known as Melissa Officinalis, consists of a number of different antiviral ingredients such as rosmarinic acid, flavonoids and phenolic acid.◊◊◊1

An in vitro study conducted at Sapienza University, Rome, Italy (2008), compared the antiviral activity of lemon balm's hydroalcoholic extract in active HSV-2 cells with an antiviral drug commonly used to treat herpes infections. Lemon balm was shown to reduce cell degeneration caused by HSV-2 with a maximum inhibiting effect of 60%, therefore supporting its use for treating herpes lesions.◊◊◊3
